Butterflied and Moths, Series 727, 1978. Written and illustrated by John Leigh-Pemberton
This is the 4th book in the Conservation series, 727. In some ways it is one of those books that straddles the old style and the new. Although it has a modern style cover and layout, the illustrations are by ‘golden-age’ artist John Leigh-Pemberton and are as beautiful as you would expect. John Leigh-Pemberton had already produced a book for Ladybird with this title in series 536 some years before. This one, although artist/writer is the same, is a very different but beautiful book. In short, if you like Ladybird, Nature, butterflies and moths, you need to have both books in your collectiion.
This series of books was, in many ways, ahead of its time with their focus on the dangers of neglecting our environment. This was a topic close to the heart of Editorial Director Douglas Keen. It is no coincidence that these books, filled with warnings about the need to take action on the environment, came out at the time of his retirement. He was determined that this message should be emphasised in a series of book that got started before he left.
It has a matt cover. In very good condition inside and out (some wear to spine, a couple of very small blemishes to cover) with nice clean pages. It dates to the late 1970s.
