Dick Whittington and his Cat 1966, 606d First edition (scruffy)

£4.00

Dick Whittington and his Cat, 1966.  This book, illustrated by Eric Winter, was the 6th book in the original series of 27 Well-Loved Tales books.  The text, as always in the books of this series, was written by Vera Southgate.

With illustrations by Eric Winter.  This book stayed in print for years and but was eventually re-illustrated by Martin Aitchison in.  Both books have their charm but I personally remember this version with its scary scenes of Dick’s rat-infested attic room and trying to deflect the rolling-pin of the angry cook.

This copy:

Dick Whittington and his Cat, matt boards, Illustrated by Eric Winter.  This in very fair condition only.  The pages are very rubbed, very grubby and with other marks and blemishes.  Inside, however, it’s actually in good shape with clean pages.  It is, I believe a first edition – tally 160 – and (being an early title in the series) that makes it quite rare.  It dates to the 1960s and has the original price of 2/6 inside.
