Great Civilisations The Aztecs, 1978, Series 561

Great Civilisations The Aztecs was one of the last books in the long-running Ladybird history series.  It was written by Brenda Ralph Lewis and illustrated by Robert Ayton.  I remember this book from a project at school.  The opening scene of human sacrifice frightened the heck out of me. Still does, to be honest.

There were 6 different titles in the Great Civilisations books, and I’m sure most of them were the basis of many a school project in the 70s and 80s.  Dating from after the sale of the company in the early 1970s, the look and layout of the book are different – mainly because text and illustration are not kept separate.  This book was only ever issued with this style of cover.

This book has laminated boards; it’s in excellent, nearly-new condition inside and out.  It probably dates from the 1980s and has the original price of 85p on the back.
