Peter and Jane 3a 1970s (transition version)

£2.00

There were 36 book in total in the Key Words reading scheme – the Peter and Jane books.  Each of 12 levels was divided into three: a, b and c.  The ‘a’ books introduced new vocabularly which was reinforced in the ‘b’ books while the ‘c’ books tended to focus on writing, spelling and phonics.  Book 3a was first published in 1964 and revised in 1972.  It was written by William Murray and the revised version was illustrated by Martin Aitchison (the original book 3a was illustrated by John Berry).

This matt copy is the first revision of the original version – the ‘transition’ version.  It is called that because it has elements of the original 1964 book and the later 1970s version.  The format is the original – with a full page cover picture and inside the format with text on the left and a full-page image on the right.  However, the artwork is Martin Aitchison’s revised artwork – mother and Jane can wear trousers and the world gets a bit more untidy and frankly realistic.

Although the book is in good/very good condition, it has come from a school; it’s been covered in clear plastic and has a school stamp.  It dates fron the early 1970s and has the original price of 15p on the back.
