South American Mammals, 1972, Series 691 (scruffy)

South American Mammals, Series 691.
This is the 6th book in the Animals of the World series, 691. It was both written and beautifully illustrated by John Leigh-Pemberton. There were 7 books in the series, covering the mammals of the main continents and then with an additional volume ‘Air and Sea Mammals’. The artwork and research in these books is superb – probably Leigh-Pemberton’s tour-de-force for Ladybird. Sadly, it’s not a well-known series today and so goes rather unappreciated.
This copy:
This book is quite hard to find, otherwise I wouldn’t be offering it for sale in this condition – fair only. It has been covered in clear plastic, it’s an ex-library book with all the associated marks and scars you’d expect. The spine, although covered in clear plastic, is well worn. But the content pages are actually ok but for a library stamp on one text page. So it would make a decent reading copy. With a tally number of 200, I believe it to be a first edition. It dates to the early-1970s and has the original price of 15p stamped on the back.
