The Ladybird Book of Prayers Through the Year feels like a nostalgic trip back to 1960s school assemblies. It is a calendar of lovely illustrations, by artist Clive Uptton, and kind thoughts about counting your blessings and living your best life. Despite the title, the illustrations are very domestic – meal times, walks in the country, holidays by the sea etc. The illustrations could have comes straight out of Treasure Magazine – where Uptton was the main illustrator. First printed in 1964, it was one of the last titles to be originally printed with a dust jacket.
This is a matt edition. It’s in excellent condition inside and out – very little wear and exceptionally clean tight pages. Despite looking nearly-new, this copy dates to around 1970 as it has an original price of 2/6 revised to 15p printed inside.
