The Postman 1965 was the 7th book to be issued in series 606b. It was written by Vera Southgate and, like all the books in this series, was beautifully, lovingly illustrated by John Berry. The full title of this book is ‘The Postman and the Postal Service’ and it contains some lovely, evocative images of the labour-intensive (but efficient) service of the 1960s and 70s – including the speeding mail trains and those metal arms that snatched pouches of letters as the train passed.
This matt copy is in good condition externally and very good inside. There is the beginning of a split to one spine edge, a knock to cover edge and some rubbing to extremities. Inside there’s a neat name to the endpapers but the pages are clean and unmarked. It dates from the early-1970s and has an original price of 15p on the back.
