The Postman 1965 was the 7th book to be issued in series 606b. It was written by Vera Southgate and, like all the books in this series, was beautifully, lovingly illustrated by John Berry. The full title of this book is ‘The Postman and the Postal Service’ and it contains some lovely, evocative images of the labour-intensive (but efficient) service of the 1960s and 70s – including the speeding mail trains and those metal arms that snatched pouches of letters as the train passed. Today, this is relatively hard-to-find title.
This matt copy is in very good condition inside and out. There’s only light edge wear and small knocks to the boards which still look bright and fresh. The pages are clean and still quite tight. It dates from the mid-1970s and has an original price of 24p on the back.
