There were several versions of a book bought out under this title from the 1940s onwards, so it’s very important to check that you are buying the right book.

This is the original version from 1946 – the third title in series 413.  It is written by Geoffrey Lapage and beautifully illustrated by George Brock in soft pastels

Looking at the cover, this is a very sad specimen of a book – very dirty, bent boards and the spine cover haning off.  Inside, however, it’s a perfectly decent copy.  The reading pages are clean and secure – small repair to one page –  and would offer a lovely (affordable) trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up with these fondly-remembered rhymes.  This copy dates to around the late 1950s.
