Welcome to my vintage Ladybird books website
Welcome to my vintage Ladybird books website. I am told that every site should have an ‘about us’ page. So here’s mine. This is me – Helen – and some of my many many books.
For many years now, I’ve been interested in Ladybird books – vintage ones – ie before 1975. I’m interested in the history, the artists who illustrated the books and the social history that their illustrations contain. I began as a collector but my interest soon broadened into a desire to gather and curate information about the company in the period before it was sold, in the mid-1970s. Through my website, blog and social media accounts I try to share my interest and enthusiasm. I also contribute to articles, exhibitions and tv programmes on the subject.
I’m not a book dealer, although I do sell my swaps (to re-invest back in my hobby!). There are always things I’m looking to acquire – the unusual item, original artwork, vintage retail ephemera, letters or correspondence or other artefacts that help to tell the story of the early company – but there aren’t really any books that I need for my collection. If you have a lot of vintage Ladybird books you’d like to move on, I’m probably not the person to contact. You would need to pretty well give them to me – and even then it would just be for the pleasure of sorting through them and looking for any upgrades.
