The Story of Clowns, 1966, Series 662

The Story of Clowns was first published in 1976 and was the last title in series, 662  – music and performance.  It was illustrated by June Jackson and written by Ian Woodward.  The fact that this was published in 1976 goes to explain the unusual style of illustration (unusual for Ladybird) because this was published after the sale of the company and when new hands were on the tiller – keen to ring in the changes and to celebrate the aesthetic of the mid-1970s.  As a result the illustration style is much less figurative and very … striking.

This matt copy is in very good condition and is quite a hard-to-find title.  The spine is sunned but otherwise the book is in very nice, clean condition.  This copy dates to the mid 1970s and has an original price of 24p on the back (so a first edition, I believe).
