Great Civilisations Crete, 1976, Series 561

Great Civilisations Crete was was written by Clarence Greig and illustrated by Jorge Nunez.  This book was the last of the history series originally issued with a more traditional cover style but is more commonly found in this style.  This is a ‘transition book’.  Inside the book has begun to lose the traditional format of text on the left and illustration on the right – on some pages the text straddles both.

There were 6 different titles in the Great Civilisations books, and I’m sure most of them were the basis of many a school project in the 70s and 80s.

This copy:

Matt boards.  This book is very hard-to-find with this original style cover.  This book is not without its faults – there are residue marks on the endpapers and there is a school stamp on the title page.  Also a little residue on the base of the spine.  The reading pages are in good condition.  It is a first edition because only the first had this style of cover.
