Great Civilisations The Aztecs was one of the last books in the long-running Ladybird history series. It was written by Brenda Ralph Lewis and illustrated by Robert Ayton. I remember this book from a project at school. The opening scene of human sacrifice frightened the heck out of me. Still does, to be honest.
There were 6 different titles in the Great Civilisations books, and I’m sure most of them were the basis of many a school project in the 70s and 80s. Dating from after the sale of the company in the early 1970s, the look and layout of the book are different – mainly because text and illustration are not kept separate. This book was only ever issued with this style of cover.
This book has matt boards; it’s in very good condition. There’s a little wear to the head and foot of spine but has very nice, clean, tight pages. It probably dates from the late 1970s and has the original price of 40p on the back.
