Learning to Crochet, 1972, Series 633.
This book was originally the 15th book in the Hobbies series, 633. It was subsequently issued with a different cover and title as ‘Learnabout Crochet’ (series 634) but is essentially the same book. It was written by Wynne Broughton and was illustrated by the Eric Winter (better known for his fairy-tale illustrations).
So many of us will have made (or at least started) some of the projects in the book – either at home or at school. I never really learned to crochet anything except long chains and when I tried to teach myself to make ‘granny squares’ recently, I first sought help on YouTube, where there are many, many tutorials. I didn’t make much progress so I dug out this book and started from the beginning. And finally learnt how to do it! Thanks, Ladybird.
It’s quite a hard-to-find book these days.
