There were 36 book in total in the Key Words reading scheme – the Peter and Jane books. Each of 12 levels was divided into three: a, b and c. The ‘a’ books introduced new vocabularly which was reinforced in the ‘b’ books while the ‘c’ books tended to focus on writing, spelling and phonics. Book 1c was first published in 1964. It was written by William Murray and illustrated by Harry Wingfield.
This matt copy is the original 1960s version. This is one of the hardest-to-find books in this series – being one of the lower numbers and with writing exercises inside, it tended to have the hardest life with the youngest children. This copy is in Very Good condition but for having had most of the ‘blanks’ filled in pencil – and the occasional other pencil annotation. Otherwsie, the boards are in good shape and the lovely Harry Wingfield pictures fresh and bright. It dates to the 1960s and has the original price of 2/6 printed inside.
