The Story of Newspapers was first published in 1969 in the long-running Achievements series, 601. It was written by W D Siddle and illustrated by Ron Embleton. It reflects perhaps the golden age of newsprint – just before all the upheaval of new printing processes and the huge shifts in working practice and news consumption that the subsequent decades have brought. This is the only complete Ladybird that Ron Embleton illustrated for Ladybird, although he contributed to another two. When you adjust to Embleton’s distinctive style, the illustrations here are stunning.
This copy:
Matt boards which, generally speaking, are in very good condition. A few minor faults: a little creasing to the back cover and other small marks and blemishes, but nothing significant and the reading pages are in nice, clean condition. It dates to the 1960s and, with a tally number of 230, I believe it to be a first edition.
