The Wise Robin, 1950 (DJ)

The Wise Robin is the third in the ‘Animal Stories’ series, 497.   As with the other books in this series, it was written by Noel Barr and illustrated by Percy Hickling.

This is a storybook intended to be read to young children.  Most of the stories deal with ‘naughty’ animals and the lessons they learn by the end of the book.  This story is a little different as The Robin is actually praised for his quick thinking and resourcefulness.  So it’s a very positive little story and perfect for Christmas.  The earliest copies of this book were originally published with a dustwrapper.

A copy still has its original dj, although it has been price-clipped and there is a small piece of loss easily seen in the photos near the title.  Otherwise both book and DJ are in very good condition.  The endpapers have the blue, open-wing design.  There is a neat, Christmas inscription to the front free endpaper, dating the book to 1963.
