The Ladybird Book of Motor Cars, 1968, Series 584. There were several different editions of this book published as technology changed and Ladybird tried to keep pace. Motor Cars is a ‘spotting’ book – filled with pictures of different cars of the period and the information to identify them. It is illustrated with adapted beautiful painted illustrations rather than photographs, which definitely adds to its charm. It is thought that the illustrations were produced by commercial artists employed by Rover (the employer of the writer whose pen name was ‘David Carey’) but, unsually for Ladybird, the artist is not named.
This copy is in fair condition with light marks and faint scribbles on the cover. Inside there are odd blemishes and foxing spots but the reading pages are in good shape. These books were so well-loved by their original owners that they are rarely found in pristing condition today – but this is a decent copy. It dates from the 1970s and has the original pricee 15p on the back
