Great Civilisations Egypt, 1973, Series 561

£5.50

Great Civilisations Egypt was one of the last books in the long-running Ladybird history series.  It was written by E J Shaw and illustrated by Jorge Nunez.  This book was originally issued with a more traditional cover style but is more commonly found in this style.  However, the cover is the only change – inside the book has the traditional format of text on the left and illustration on the right.

There were 6 different titles in the Great Civilisations books, and I’m sure most of them were the basis of many a school project in the 70s and 80s.

This copy:

This is the hard-to-find original version of the book with full-cover illustration to the matt boards.  It is, however, an ex-library book so has a library stamp page on the front free endpaper and library ticket pocket on the title page.  It has quite a lot of edge wear to the covers but the reading pages are in VG condition.  With a tally number of 330 I believe it to be a first edition.
