How it Works The Hovercraft, 1969 was the 7th title in the How-it-Works series, 654. It was written by the mysterious David Carey and illustrated with typical precision by B H Robinson. Ladybird loved a hovercraft; I think it represented the excitement for the future with new technology, of British engineering and British inventiveness. Of course, as we know, the future isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be in a Ladybird book and hovercrafts didn’t ‘take off’ as Ladybird had imagined, although if you take the hovercraft to the Isle of Wight, I believe you can still purchase a special sponsored copy of this book.
