Ned the Lonely Donkey, 1949

Ned the Lonely Donkey  is the 7th in the ‘Animal Stories’ series, 497.   As with the other books in this series, it was written by Noel Barr and illustrated by Percy Hickling.

This is a storybook intended to be read to young children.  Most of the stories deal with ‘naughty’ animals and the lessons they learn by the end of the book.  This story is a little different as Ned is hardly reponsible for feeling so lonely – but as ever, in the end he finds happiness..  The earliest copies of this book were originally published with a dustwrapper.

This copy still has its original condition and would be in good condition but for some annoying pen marks on the first text page (see photos).  The DJ isnot price clipped but is a little shelf-worn and there are small tears and nicks to the edges.  The book itself is in otherwise very good condition – with blue open-wing endpapers and otherwise clean pages.
