The Zoo, 1958, (DJ)

The Zoo  is the seventh in the ‘Learning to Read’ series, 563.   As with the other books in this series, it was written by educationalist Margaret Gagg.  It is the only book that the artist, Barry Driscoll, illustrated for Ladybird.

Intended as a very first book in the long journey towards reading, the text is written in big, clear type – very simple and very repetitive.  The pictures are big and bold and are designed to appeal to very young children.

The DJ has not been price clipped and is good condition, with some rubbing/loss head and foot of spine panel, slightly rumpled and a small blemish to the front panel (see photos).  The book itself is in VG condition with white endpapers and clean, though well turned, pages.  This book was commonly bought for young children, so it is often found in worse condition.
