There were 36 book in total in the Key Words reading scheme – the Peter and Jane books. Each of 12 levels was divided into three: a, b and c. The ‘a’ books introduced new vocabularly which was reinforced in the ‘b’ books while the ‘c’ books tended to focus on writing, spelling and phonics. Book 4a was first published in 1964. It was written by William Murray and illustrated by Harry Wingfield.
This matt copy is the original 1960s version. It was the very first book in the series of 36 (plus add-ons) to be published and introduced the characters of Peter, Jane and Pat the dog. Because this book tends to have a hard life in the hands of the youngest readers it is very often damaged beyond repair. This copy is in good condition with minor marks and blemishes to cover and pages and moderate rubbing to spine – but there are no major faults. This copy dates to the 1960s has the original price of 2/6 printed inside.
