There were 36 book in total in the Key Words reading scheme – the Peter and Jane books.  Each of 12 levels was divided into three: a, b and c.  The ‘a’ books introduced new vocabularly which was reinforced in the ‘b’ books while the ‘c’ books tended to focus on writing, spelling and phonics.  Book 8a was first published in 1964 and revised in 1972.  It was written by William Murray and the revised version was illustrated by Martin Aitchison while the original book 8a was illustrated by John Berry).

This matt copy is the original 1964 version, with a full page cover picture and inside the format with text on the left and a full-page image on the right.  The artwork is by John Berry, who only illustrated a couple of Peter and Jane books and was only drafted in when Harry Wingfield and Martin Aitchison were too busy.  It’s a bit harder to find in this version.

The book is in very good condition, inside and out with a bit of light shelf wear and the odd minor blemish but nice, clean pages.  This copy dates from the 1970s and has the original price of 15p on the back.
