Pirates, 1970, Series 707

Pirates, 1970,  Series 707.

This is the first book in the Pirates and Wild West series, 707.  It was written by L du Garde Peach and beautifully illustrated by Frank Humphris.  The later books in this series all dealy with topics to do with the Wild West – and were written as well as illustrated by Frank Humphris.  This is because Humphris was an aficionado of all things ‘cowboys and indians’.  He was an honarary member of an Indian tribe and was also honorary Sheriff of of a small town in the USA.  But Peach was the right choice to write this book, with his extensive experience of carving colourful, page-long episodes from a knotty piece of history,  his insatiable taste for a juicy tale – and preference for an anecdote over accuracy.
