The second of the two ‘Kings and Queens’ books of the 1960s, written by L du Garde Peach. This title was later revised – first to give it a new-look cover and then subsequently it was completely re-written and re-illustrated (taking away just about all of its considerable charm in the process). But this copy is the original.
The vivid, startling illustrations are by Frank Hampson. All the other history books of this era (Series 561) are illustrated by John Kenney.
This copy:
This copy has the later style blue ‘window’ boards instead of the earlier full-page cover picture boards but otherwise this is the original version. This copy is in excellent condition inside and out but for a small scuff to spine and some small ‘nibbles’ of damage to inside back edge of boards, otherwise not much wear and clean, tight pages. This copy dates to the 1970s and has the original price of 50p on the back.
