Arms and Armour, 1964, Series 601
£3.00
The Story of Arms and Armour was first published in 1971 and was the 17th title in the long-running Achievements series, 601. It was illustrated by the brilliant visual-storyteller Robert Ayton and written by Edmund Hunter.
As is typical of golden-age Ladybird books, it was fine to talk about long-ago battles but there was little taste for discussing 20th century warfare. Only limited reference is made to modern weapons – the focus is on cross-bows, muskets and cannon.
This matt copy dates from the mid 1970s and was originally priced at 24p. The cover is in very good condition but for aslightly sunned spine and a scar on the far right of the cover, next to the logo (see photo). Otherwise the book is in very nice condition with very clean pages.
