Learning with Mother, book 4, 1971, Series 702
The Learning with Mother books were conceived by Ethel Wingfield and Margaret Keen, towards the end of the ‘Wills & Hepworth’ era. They were written by Ethel and illustrated by her husband Harry. The idea of the series was to show a range of practical educative activities that parents (well Mums, as the title suggests) could do with young children – from 6 months of age up to 5 years old. The ideas were simple, tried-and-tested and practical – involving very little expense and the illustrations were, of course, absolutely beautiful. So no wonder this was a popular series of books with families, hospitals and nurseries.
