London, 1961 (DJ) (scruffy)

£3.00

The Ladybird Book of London was the one and only title in series 618 – (although it was later moved across to join the  ‘Learnabout’ books, series 634, where it was re-written and re-illustrated – with photographs replacing the beautiful John Berry illustrations which are the best part of the original book).  This version – the original – is full of the gentle, nostalgic charm of a faded postcard found in a vintage book.

This was the first title that Berry illustrated for Ladybird and was originally issued with a dustwrapper.

This copy still has its original dj (not price-clipped) but it’s main problem can clearly be seen on the photos – a large, brown foxing spot and some other smaller ones on the front panel of the DJ, along with wear and light fraying to the edges.  The back cover also has the odd minor mark but actually the book itself is in very good condition with nice, clean pages.
