There were 36 book in total in the Key Words reading scheme – the Peter and Jane books. Each of 12 levels was divided into three: a, b and c. The ‘a’ books introduced new vocabularly which was reinforced in the ‘b’ books while the ‘c’ books tended to focus on writing, spelling and phonics. Book 2b was first published in 1964. It was written by William Murray and illustrated by Harry Wingfield.
This matt copy is the original 1960s version but it is in sorry condition and has been very well-used over the years. It has been covered in clear plastic, the pages are very well-turned and the stitching is loose. All the pages are in place – but the stitching will need re-inforcing if it is to last much longer.
I wouldn’t normally put a book in this condition on my website ‘shop’ – but it’s such a charming book with stunning illustrations that it will make a very good nostalgia trip for someone or will fill a gap for a collector until a better copy comes along.
