I bring joyful tidings regarding two different Ladybird book exhibitions which are coming up this year.
1) An exhibition about Ladybird Books in Reading, opening soon.
2) MY exhibition – ‘The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists’, taking place in Leicester this summer.
Now for more details:
Later this month there is going to be an exhibition about the history of Ladybird Books in Reading. This will be called “Ladybird Books: How it Works“. it will be hosted at Reading Museum as part of Museums Partnership Reading this exhibition presents material from the Ladybird Books Archive housed at the University of Reading.
I’m sure it will be very interesting for all Ladybird book lovers. I am going to the opening on the 28th March and after that will be able to tell you more about it. To find our more, here’s the link.
But for me personally the big news is that my exhibition “The Wonderful World of the Ladybird book Artists” is going to be the main summer exhibition at the New Walk Gallery in Leicester this summer. I’m particularly pleased not just because it means that my exhibition is finally heading out of the south east, but because Leicestershire is the birthplace and county home of Ladybird Books throughout the 20th century.

The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists
It will open on 13th July and run until 1st September 2019. Whether or not you managed to catch the exhibition last year in Canterbury (which received so many eye-wateringly lovely reviews), there should be plenty to entertain you since the exhibition space at the New Walk Gallery is huge – so I’ll be able to include some of the material that had to be left out last time.

I’m really looking forward to finding new ways to tell the story of the Ladybird books through the story of the Ladybird book artists
Both exhibitions will be free entry. What’s not to love?
More information on both coming soon

How exciting! May try to make the Leicester one6
So enjoyed Canterbury
Excellent! Canterbury was too far for us, but we will visit both Reading and Leicester!
Can you come to Wales please? 🏴
I’d love to! My family live in Wales. But I would need to receive an invitation from a gallery that could host the exhibition.
Definitely Wales!

Please, please bring the exhibition up north. I live near Newcastle, but I would travel down as far as Leeds or even Manchester to see it. Can you maybe suggest to some northern galleries that they invite you? Newcastle’s Laing often has exhibitions of children’s illustrators. Their Quentin Blake one was very poplar, I think, and I know a Ladybird exhibition would do well.
Would be interested in finding out about your exhibition for my venue could you contact me?
